Church History

churchIn 1995, after a successful career in business, Ken Brinkley left the corporate world and answered a call to ministry. Upon answering the call to ministry God began a major transformation in his life that clearly demonstrated the awesome healing power of Christ’s love. Ken immediately began to pursue seminary education because he believed that education would better equip him to do his best for God. After several relocations and continuing his education at various seminaries after each move, Ken and his wife Ruth relocated to Chattanooga, TN, in February 2002 where Ken completed his doctoral studies in Ministry. After completing his education, Ken moved forward in faith with a dream to plant a new church where people of all races and cultures could come to find acceptance, love, help, forgiveness, hope, and encouragement through the transforming love of Jesus Christ. Transforming Faith Baptist Church was the realization of the dream that God had given Ken.

Hopeful excitement filled the room when the group of 23 men, women and children met on Saturday May 21, 2005 to hear Ken reveal how God was leading him to plan and establish a new church. Following the presentation and discussion, all present committed to becoming founding members of the new church where Ken would be the pastor. In confident assurance, the church agreed to assemble in just fifteen days on Sunday, June 5, 2005, for its first praise and worship service. However, there was one “not-so-small” problem Ken and his new congregation had to first address—they did not have a place to meet for that first historic occasion.

Miraculously, God demonstrated that He does answer prayer and that He will deliver on time. This was evidenced by the fact that by May 24, 2005, within four days of that initial planning meeting, Ken had been offered a large unused church chapel as a place for the new church to worship and study. When informed of the offer, the congregation praised God for this wonderful blessing.

On Sunday, June 5, 2005, Transforming Faith assembled with friends and guest musicians for its first worship service. The service ended with the members present joyfully thanking God for the great things He had already done and for what He was going to do to help them serve people through this newly planted church.

June 5, 2005 was the beginning. Today, we are still working to show and tell people about the transforming love of Jesus Christ. We know that faith in God will allow each of us to live the purposeful and productive lives that He has designed and planned for us.

In December 2009, due to family commitments and obligations, Founder and Pastor Kenneth Brinkley resigned as Pastor of TFBC to move to Scottsdale, Az. He left a 4 year legacy of good works for the Lord that established the spiritual foundation of Transforming Faith Baptist Church. Soon thereafter a search committee was formed to interview candidates for our vacant pulpit. After prayerful deliberation, Spirit-led discussions, and upon the recommendation of the Pastor Search Committee, a majority of the members voted to extend the Macedonian Call to Reverend Brian L. Nixon of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Reverend Nixon is the former Pastor of the Holy Trinity Baptist Church of Pungoteague, Virginia. Installation Services are being planned for March 20th and 21st.

We invite you to join us as we continue to reach out and demonstrate the power of God’s love in helping us to experience a life of joy and love that only He can give.
