Intercessory Prayer Ministry

The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective James 5:16b (NIV)

In the resource book, Prayer, The Great Adventure by David Jeremiah, it is stated that, “Intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others, but it goes beyond the "normal" kind of prayer for others. The person is acting as a mediator between God and the person or people, closing the gap between them. This prayer is done fervently, with the intent of God granting the requests in that prayer (so that it is more than just asking or hoping, but actually expecting God to act). or example, the sin of man brought a gap between God and man. Then Jesus was born, acting as the mediator on behalf of us, and closed the gap between us and God when He died on the cross. He is the greatest mediator (intercessor) who ever lived. Because of this we can now intercede in prayer on behalf of other Christians, or for the lost, causing them to repent and seek after God. "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). "Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us"” (Romans 8:34).

TFBC Intercessory Prayer Ministry Guidelines:

  1. The supreme object of prayer is God Himself. We seek God’s glory and will in prayer. This is not only true when we pray for ourselves but also when we pray for others.

  2. We pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We pray because of His righteousness, sacrifice, suffering and sufficiency, not because of our worthiness or merit.

  3. We pray in the power and strength of the Holy Spirit. We are led, guided and directed with the living Spirit of God in the Ministry of intercession.

We pray according to the Word of God. The written Scriptures inform and instruct us so that we never ask for anything contrary to the Word of God.

  4. We pray in fellowship and communion with the saints of God. Others are praying with us in a mighty concert of prayer.

  5. Prayer is both work and joy. It is spiritual labor requiring a commitment and concentration of our entire being. It is blessedness that results in changed lives and the mighty demonstration of God’s power.

If you are led by the Holy Spirit to participate (any way you desire) in the ministry of intercessory prayer, you are warmly invited to join the TFBC Prayer Warriors each Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. However, if you cannot attend and want the Prayer Warriors to lift you or your circumstance up to God in prayer, please click here to send an email for a prayer request.
